COMMUNITY SERVICE UNIT

The Community Service Unit within the Alternative Programs Bureau administers sentences that mandate either community service or participation in remedial programs, such as retraining programs for reckless drivers. A defendant’s compliance with the conditions of sentence (e.g., performance of community service or attendance at a program) is monitored by the unit for the court. Additionally, the unit’s staff works to establish community service sites, and then makes periodic visits to ensure that those sites continue to be appropriate.
